• Concrete Raising & Leveling in Hampstead, NC

Find out whether settled concrete can be lifted.

    Cracked concrete surface

Tell us where the concrete has settled

Describe the uneven surface, visible cracking, and any water that collects nearby. The guide below explains questions to discuss before deciding whether lifting is suitable.

  • Find out whether the existing slab is a candidate

Concrete raising aims to lift settled concrete toward a more suitable position without replacing the entire slab. It may be considered for some walkways, patios, driveways, or similar surfaces. The condition of the concrete and the reason it moved determine whether lifting is a practical option.

    Signs worth having assessed

    • An uneven edge between neighboring slabs

    • A sunken section of walkway, patio, or driveway

    • A low area that collects water or directs it toward the house

    • Gaps appearing beneath the edge of a slab

What can leave concrete without even support?

Poorly compacted fill, erosion, or changes in underlying support can contribute to settlement. Other movement, including uplift near roots, may require a different response. A cracked slab is not necessarily a liftable slab: extensive breakage or a continuing underlying problem can limit the result.

    What a contractor may evaluate

A contractor may check the slab thickness and condition, crack pattern, level differences, drainage slope, access, and nearby structures. Explain where water goes during rain and whether the surface has changed recently. Ask how the work will affect adjoining slabs, thresholds, and existing cracks, and whether replacement should also be considered.

    Approaches a contractor may discuss

Lifting with injected material: Some contractors use polyurethane foam or a cement-based grout beneath suitable slabs. The contractor should explain the proposed method, access points, and limitations for the specific surface.

Replacement where lifting is unsuitable: Heavily damaged concrete or a slab with an unsuitable condition may need removal and replacement. Raising does not make fractured concrete new or necessarily close existing cracks.

Addressing contributing drainage: If water is undermining the slab, the proposal may need to account for that condition. Ask what preparation and follow-up work are included, and when the surface can be used again.

    When related services may help

Movement involving the home itself should be discussed as a foundation concern, rather than assumed to be a slab-leveling project. If a low exterior surface is associated with water entering below ground, basement waterproofing may be relevant to evaluating the water problem.

Identify the surface and the change

Tell us whether the problem affects a walkway, patio, driveway, or other slab. Include the approximate area, visible cracking, and whether water collects there.
